Movie Review: Deadpool 2

Having seen the previous film, you must be fooling yourself if you didn't expect Deadpool 2 to be absolutely crazy, obnoxious, hysterical and downright brutal. Sure, this sequel felt more of the same from its predecessor, but the fact that it, once again, skilfully juggled both effective comedy and brutally violent action sequences was pretty impressive.

The story was understandably straightforward, but written exceptionally well, it had emotional deft, which was shocking, and the comedy still had that razor sharp edge. True, the jokes were slightly excessive that it became too exhausting and some of the jokes didn't land as well as the others, but those that did had me in tears of laughter and jaw stuck to the floor.

The action scenes were also quite stellar and had not been softened at all from the first film. It was visceral, violent, and immensely gratifying. If anything, Deadpool 2 far surpassed the level and amount of violence of the first one, so much so that at times, I wondered if it was still okay that I was having so much fun with it. Haha.

While not as refreshing as the first one, Deadpool 2 did deliver in spades a well executed, hilarious, and over-the-top superhero film. It will not be the new Citizen Kane, but if you go watch it in the right state of mind, you'd laugh yourself silly. Oh, and Ryan Reynolds was still a hoot!
