Movie Review: Venom

Here's the thing: Venom wasn't as awful as I heard it was, but it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.

Yes, it was a sloppy mess. The tone of the movie was all over the place, the editing was quite problematic ruining the continuity of some of the sequences, and the dialogues were slightly atrocious. Given the violent story and character, it needed gore and blood to give the film some much needed kick and edge. The villain was astonishingly boring as well - he was not interesting nor threatening. No, I didn't think Riz Ahmed was a total miscast, but just terribly written character. Michelle Williams, on the other hand, seemed like she didn't care creating zero chemistry with the lead.

HOWEVER, Venom still had a couple of awesome moments and parts of it were provided by the neat dynamics between the symbiote, Venom, and Tom Hardy. Again, the script could've been better, but listening to them gave me some sick kind of pleasure. It was hilarious. Hah. And yes, Tom Hardy's commitment to the role was terrific. He was a delight to watch, and he was downright the best thing about the film.

Venom was nowhere near as bad as how critics made it out to be. It was heavily flawed, but I had a really good time watching it. I mean, the crowd cheered as soon as the film ended - so there's that.
