Movie Review: Split

No, Split was not as good as M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense or, to some extent, Unbreakable, but it wasn't an absolute stinker like The Last Airbender or The Happening. This was, to me, his first baby step to the right direction. I thought the film was effectively creepy, the horror elements were handled surprisingly well, James McAvoy was exceptionally wonderful and despite the overused plot, the fascinating premise over multiple personalities enhanced the film a bit. The screenplay, however, felt a little too uninspired and lazy and there were one too many plot contrivances. The transition was also annoyingly jarring that as soon as the supernatural elements began to creep in towards the end, the film lost me. Split was both fascinating and disturbing dragged by technical flaws here and there. The main draw of the film was James McAvoy and somehow, that was good enough reason to watch the film.
