Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

After the mess that was At World's End and the underwhelming On Stranger Tides, I was practically ready to full on hate Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. I mean, this was probably one of the most unnecessary film sequels in recent memory - other than the awful Transformers. That being said, this film was a completely watchable and harmless fun. The plot wasn't as convoluted as the last three films, there was a decent story arc, and the production value was above reproach - although I hated how some of the scenes were done with very low lighting and poor camera angle that it was hard follow what was actually going on. Also, watching Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow was just a delight especially now that I'm convinced that he's not capable of breaking away from the nuances of this role whenever I watch him in his other films. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales still lacked the rollicking fun of Curse of the Black Pearl, but it is what is.
