Music Release: Little Mix (ft. Stormzy) - Power "is exhaustingly draining."
Little Mix are continuously promoting their latest album Glory Days and releasing updated versions of some of the songs in that album. After collaborating with Machine Gun Kelly on the song, No More Sad Songs, the ladies that won X Factor UK are being assisted by UK rapper Stormzy in this uptempo single entitled Power.
Power. The term could be very well attributed to the girls. Vocally, they are powerful vocalists. They can manage to sing ballad and uptempo tunes with that bombast and fierceness and power is very much evident on the song with the same title.
Power successfully relies on Little Mix's vocals, giving the song the oomph that it desires and the loudness that it requires. That, however, is where the single also struggles, from the get go as Perrie opens the song, it is already showcasing vocal power that at the end of every verse and the song, it already feels exhaustingly draining.
Power lacks dynamics. More so, the track fails to feel accessible. The upbeat quality and production isn't giving a memorable impression and the rap verse felt unnecessary. Power is an overwrought vocal showcase.
Power feels like a wasted opportunity for the girls who are trying to penetrate the US radio. Why are they not pushing Ooops, the girls collaboration with Charlie Puth?
Do you agree with my thoughts about the song?
