Movie Review: Bad Genius

What did I just watch?! Look, I wasn't expect much coming into it, but Bad Genius had to be one of the most complex, entertaining, and disturbing films about high school that I've ever seen. Sure, the premise seemed slightly absurd, but everything else was just on point. The direction was impeccable, the highly stylized editing from the cutaways to the slow motion sequences were not overdone and were executed masterfully, and it had fantastic musical score. The narrative was tight and characters were surprisingly well-developed, so much so that it felt like I could vicariously live through their mishaps and adventures. Oh, and Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying (whew!), who played Lynn, was a breath of fresh air with her amazingly calm, cool, and chillingly real demeanor. Bad Genius was a well-crafted piece of entertainment from Thailand that I didn't think I needed. It was dark, suspenseful, funny, and sophisticated, and may or may not be one of the best "teen" movies ever made.
