Was Lelo's take on Mercy a little showboat-y? Yeah, sure. Some of the panel did mention that. But it was also packed with raw and heady feeling that made the vocal acrobatics seem authentic, rather than contrived. The way she built the intensity from the easygoing intro to a growling climax and how she conjured up more control and poise as she scaled the scary heights of her vocals was a quite remarkable.
