As one of the jury members put it, "He made me want to buy a puppy and a blanket, build a little fire in our house, and just curl up with a cup of hot chocolate." Dennis van Aarssen had a warmth to his tone that's distinct from the rest and his sublime, razor-precise interpretation of this classic resonated well with the jury. He didn't have the biggest range, but he got a tone that soothes and what appears to be a genuine understanding of jazz. Only ten (10) of the entire jury failed to put this in their Top 25 list and that says a lot.
