Movie Review: Sex and the City 2
Sure, by movie standards - or by standards of those who are not fans of the TV show - the film was almost shockingly inept. I thought that the storyline was a bit sketchy and it seemed like it got out of hand more than once or twice. I mean, the New York sequences were good - after all, it's where the girls belong - and even the Abu Dhabi scenes weren't terrible. However, something happened towards the end of the movie that the plot felt convoluted and rushed.
I didn't think the movie was also well-written. Sure, the writing wasn't THAT bad but it could have been a lot better. I personally thought that Carrie Bradshaw's inner monologues lost their wit, even though she still delivered a few good lines when faced with other people. Good thing, Samantha still had those hilarious one-liners and both Charlotte and Miranda had some decent materials to work with this time - compared to the first film.
Now, having said all of that, this film, I thought, was not as much about deeper meanings, as it was all about having fun and letting your imagination go wild - along with your inhibitions, of course. And as far as the fun part is concerned, this movie was a blast.
Not a cinematic masterpiece, but I think everyone can find something to enjoy here.
And while I recommend it wholeheartedly to the Sex and the City followers, I can see how silly it might be to people who don't know these characters. So, it is what it is.
