Movie Review: Thor: Ragnarok

Superhero genre is a very crowded field, but somehow Marvel managed to produce yet again an engaging spectacle, which had the right mix of humor and bombast with Thor: Ragnarok.

The story covered basic ground, but the pacing and execution was exemplary that the movie kept me on the edge of my proverbial seat right until the end. It was filled with surprisingly incredible humor, impressively choreographed fight scenes, meticulously crafted visual effects, top notch cinematography, lavish production design, and masterful direction.

The actors were also pretty terrific. Chris Hemsworth remained charismatic with an outstanding screen presence to carry the titular role, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hiddleston were quite entertaining to watch, but it was the allure and fierceness of both Tessa Thompson and Cate Blanchett that stole the show. Together, the chemistry between these characters felt organic.

Thor: Ragnarok wasn't perfect - some of the tonal shifts felt a bit jarring and problematic and the emotional arc felt a bit flat - but it was a fun worthwhile romp that squarely pointed out from the get go that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Easily the best Thor film and one of the funniest Marvel films in recent memory.

Absolutely fan-THOR-stic! Ha. (Sorry. I just had to.)
