Movie Review: The Disaster Artist

Why make a movie about the worst movie ever? I genuinely wanted to love The Disaster Artist, but there was something about the film that I can make myself take seriously. It almost seemed like I was watching a parody, but not quite. Don't get me wrong. I thought the story was quite intriguing, it was, at times, hysterical, and James Franco was wonderful portraying the strange enigma that is Tommy Wiseau with pinpoint accuracy, and while The Disaster Artist was a terrific character study of the quite insufferable lead character, I can't, for the love of me, take the film seriously. It's a fascinating watch, but I honestly think one should have seen the universally panned The Room for context or you'd probably be annoyed halfway through.
