Authentic and packed an emotional wallop. Jim van der Zee may not have the strongest set of pipes this year, but he clearly knows how to use them. His vocal tone was arresting, the subtlety and simplicity in his delivery was stellar, his phrasing was quite exquisite, and the palpable connection he had with the song was so damn honest. Some of the jury felt though that the song choice was too predictable and it wasn't as big of a spectacle compared to his competition in this year's ORSS, but that was what some of the jury, on the hand, saw as his strongest weapon. The response to the performance was too extreme that the subdued and quiet take on Vincent received the highest standard deviation this year at 21.11 - amassing two (2) #1s and receiving seven (7) at their bottom tier.
