Movie Review: Kong: Skull Island

Let me start off by saying I enjoyed Kong: Skull Island more than the completely empty film Godzilla. Yes, the story was slightly unremarkable, but the execution of everything else was spot on. Visually, the film was stunning. Kong was a superbly rendered gigantic ape and watching him swat helicopters at the first half of the film was glorious. The action sequences and set pieces were pretty relentless but good, the actors were very capable of striking the exact note their roles require, and I thought the pacing was on point. Kong: Skull Island wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination - some of it didn't even make sense - but it was an effective and quite impressive summer blockbuster.
