Movie Review: War For The Planet Of The Apes

War for the Planet of the Apes was largely ruled by animated ape characters, and while I can't say that it was perfect, this was still a solid finish to the franchise. The plot wasn't particularly complex or intricate yet deftly executed, the build up towards the end was almost instantaneous that it created an intense atmosphere, and the direction was, for the most part, top notch. But what made the whole movie quite stellar was the quality of the cinematography and, of course, the excellent motion capture technology of the 'ape' actors. Andy Serkis, in particular, had perfected a masterful interpretation of Ceasar that he fared so much better and more convincing than any of his one-dimensional human counterparts. Though the pacing was quite problematic as it did drag in spots and laid the melodrama on a bit thick at times, War for the Planet of the Apes was a thoughtful piece of entertainment.
