TV to Radio: New Music from Adam Lambert, Ben Haenow, Dalton Rapattoni, and more

DAM NATION has been a committed reality show aficionado throughout the years that it will be a crime if we don't celebrate these reality show alumnis post show success. In our own way of helping to promote these talented artists, DAM NATION is dedicating a biweekly blog post of new releases from your favorite reality show contestants. American Idol, X Factor, Got Talent and The Voice alumni have a special place for us and hopefully you support, rediscover and love these new tunes.

Here is the fourth set of new releases. Enjoy!

Adam Lambert, Two Fux
[American Idol 8 - Runner Up]

Adam has been known to be grand with production that are over the top and vocals that are powerful and undeniable. But Adam's best moments is when he holds it back (See: Mad World, Tears For My Fears performances in American Idol) and gives it a quiet yet impactful moment. In Two Fux, Adam went back to that. The mid-tempo hooks, fantastic falsetto work and the understated verses were commendable. Two Fux is nothing new or special but it is a character without even trying.

Ben Haenow, Alive
[X Factor UK 11 - Winner]

Ben Haenow is channelling his inner OneRepublic and this time it works on his strength. Remember his coronation song during his X Factor UK days? That was a song from OneRepublic but somehow it felt disjointed when Ben covered it. This time, Alive is more up in his alley. His soft vocals were gorgeous yet there is an urgency when it is needed. His gritty quality of tone is missed here though. Regardless, Alive is a decent showing especially after he split with SyCo. It is nothing new or innovative but it is commendable. It is for sure a radio friendly pop tune.

Plake, Eden
[Hunter Plake: The Voice US 12 - Top 8]

Hunter Plake wasa standout and perceived front runner from the recent season of The Voice US. His silky, smooth quality of voice captured the audience. Some wrong song choices may have caused him the title but not the opportunity. Hunter together with brother have this duo that is now releasing a new single called Eden. Eden sounded fantastic with the tune inspired from some 1980s pop tunes yet the music sounded current. Eden is a gorgeous, perfect for a summer drive tune that is commendable.

Dalton Rapattoni, Signs
[American Idol 15 - Top 3]

If Signs would be the first look of what to expect from Dalton's new album, then one could expect some pop-rock tunes that are decent and had potential. Signs sounded like something 5 Seconds of Summer or Simple Plan or Boys Like Girls would do. With its mild quality, it is leaning towards more pop than rock. It has a pretty simple melody and decent vocals from Dalton. Nothing spectacular or new but nothing annoyingly bad. One thing with Signs though that it lacks that oomph and punch that could elevate this to another level.

Jacquie Lee, Am I The Only One
[The Voice US 5 - Runner Up]

Jacquie Lee is back with some new music. Am I the Only One is a simple effort with some eerie backtrack and familiar melody. It is not something I expected. The chorus had some potential bop but the backtrack is kinda distracting. Her vocals is still stand out but something about Am I the Only One is underwhelming.

Taylor Phelan, Settle Down
[The Voice US 7 - Top 20]

Settle Down had a summer feel with its alternative influenced. The single is obviously inspired from The Neighbourhood 's playbook. Settle Down isn't a pop bop nor a rock tune. It does involve some interesting back track and melody. It is a polarizing tune from Taylor but plays well to Taylor's aesthetics and style. Settle Down is not bad, in fact it has its moments and intriguing work but a part of it also has some flat efforts.
