Movie Review: Logan Lucky

Logan Lucky was a delightfully terrific heist film that gave me a chance to root for the 'bad' guys and felt wickedly good about it. Haha. The story was wonderfully simple as with any caper movies, but got around the basic problems of the genre in a fun way that wasn't heavy-handed.

The execution was ruggedly slick, the writing was sharp, and the direction from Steven Soderbergh was masterful. I was actually more impressed that the film had very little violence that's quite prevalent in films under this genre. Oh, and the cast was a host of Hollywood notables with Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig - who had impeccable comedic timing - Adam Driver, Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank, Sebastian Stan, and they all set the tone perfectly no matter how small some of the roles were. The last act was a little too played out though that I was convinced thrice that the film ended there, but it somehow kept on going. Also, the thick southern accent made it hard for me to understand some of the conversation.

Logan Lucky was like the less glamorous Ocean's movie - also from Steven Soderbergh - but just as entertaining with confident visual style and star studded cast. It didn't have huge laughs, or extravagant stunts, but it was, nonetheless, an impeccably crafted heist film.
