Movie Review: Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo: A Star Wars Story that no one really needed. Haha.

Don't get me wrong, this was a decently entertaining and perfectly watchable film, but it didn't do that much to justify its existence other than an obvious cash grab for the franchise. I mean, what was the point of the movie really? It rarely developed the character of Han Solo, there were no new insights about the character whatsoever, and it felt like watching a bloated adventure that, while engaging, was frustratingly generic. Change the name of the characters, the title of the movie, and strip off the references and you basically have a pedestrian sci-fi movie.

Again, it wasn't a terrible movie and I didn't loathe the experience. In fact, there were actually  a couple of bright moments throughout the film - Qi'ra storyline was particularly interesting, but they somehow decided not to explore on it much - and the action sequences, for the most part, were riveting. The film just pandered way too much to a massive audience that it ended up quite underwhelming.

Solo: A Star Wars Story was like watching a series of escapes, adventures, and events with somebody who acted slightly like Han Solo. The film didn't need to exist, but whatever.
