Olympics of Reality Singing Shows 2018: #1 This Woman's Work - Glennis Grace / America's Got Talent
Glennis Grace | America's Got Talent
The ORSS jury through the years have been very unpredictable and 2018 was no exception. The numbers weren't as erratic as 2016, which posted the highest standard deviation in the six years of ORSS, but had one of the most astounding record for having the performance with the most #1 not top the list this year.
Not to take anything away from Glennis Grace's This Woman's Work though because on sheer vocal power, she can outsing anyone on the list. The way she managed to be at once intimate and powerful was otherworldly impressive. Her achingly nuanced intro, elegant build and explosive conclusion showcased not only the power of her pipes and her pitch perfection, but her ability to tell a story too. The way she took her time with her phrasing, and just the way she held and caressed notes while making it soar with power was impeccable. This was a combination of vocal mastery and emotional rawness!
Despite topping only two (2) jury lists as compared to James Graham's Hello's seven (7), what she had was a more consistent "love" from the collective jury - getting twenty eight (28) jury to rank the performance within their Top 25, which sixteen (16) was within the Top 10 - which gave this a slight edge from the runner-up, and thus the title of 2018's Best Reality Singing Show performance.
