Was it just me or was
Roma incredibly bland? I admit, the film was technically outstanding - the cinematography, in particular, was stunning and almost poetic and Alfonso Cuarón's direction was masterful - but the film just left me cold and emotionally detached. I don't know. Watching
Roma was about as interesting as watching paint dry - a gorgeously applied paint if you may. Haha. The story arc was underwhelming and Yalitza Aparicio, to me, was disappointing. Granted that this was her first acting performance and they were really pulling for something more authentic, but there was an awkward rawness in her delivery and expressions that further kept me at an emotional arm's length the entire film. Most of the time, she wasn't looking where she's "supposed" to hence she looked lost in the scene and that earthquake bit and how she reacted to it was so confusing I actually ended up laughing.
Roma was an impeccably looking film and I was more than ready to be stunned, but all I got was a breathtaking paint job.
