Movie Review: Hobbs & Shaw

Hobbs & Shaw was just flat out stupid fun. I went into it expecting to see both Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham punch people and tell jokes and that's exactly what I got and more. Yes, the structure and narrative wasn't entirely cohesive, the final act felt like it was just thrown together to wrap things up and the film mostly felt like a bunch of excuses to have ridiculously impressive action set pieces, but again, while I can pick this movie apart, it's a movie that's extremely self-aware and by no means meant to be taken seriously. I mean, the Fast & Furious franchise is now nine movies deep and if you're expecting for a meaningful story or a thought provoking action drama, you should already know that you are in the wrong place. Hobbs & Shaw was incredibly stupid and silly, but it was equally entertaining with great action sequences and brilliant chemistry between the leads. I guess, movies should be judged primarily on how well they can hold up to the promise of what they're trying to be - and Hobbs & Shaw succeeded on that. Just suspend your disbelief and you're good.
