Movie Review: Hello, Love, Goodbye

Ang husay!

I don't usually watch a Kathryn Bernardo film - save for She's Dating A Gangster back in 2014 - same goes with anything Alden Richards, so imagine my shock and disbelief when I ended up genuinely loving Hello, Love, Goodbye. Sure, the film still followed the usual Star Cinema rom-com formula complete with those unnecessary layered complexities and deliciously cheesy dialogues, but the sharp and clean narrative, which offered something much deeper than the actual love story was an absolute pleasant surprise.

The film flowed really nicely, the direction was unquestionable - this was Cathy Garcia- Molina's genre anyway - and the casting was a surprisingly perfect. Alden Richards had an understated, but charming screen presence that's quite compelling to watch. He provided a certain degree of "lightness" that was a perfect contrast to the seriousness of Kathryn Bernardo, who was just downright outstanding. I felt her struggles the entire time as if I was her character and that's pretty admirable. Both actors seemed so comfortable in their roles that their interactions with one another transcend each scene and naturally unfold before my eyes - hence the progression of their relationship didn't feel forced.

Hello, Love, Goodbye was not perfect, but the sentiment and the message hits the spot that it certainly evoke some poignant memories while watching. I felt that.
