Movie Review: Yesterday

Yesterday had a wonderfully clever and fresh premise - it actually almost seemed like the perfect excuse to showcase The Beatles music to a new generation. However, the film felt as if Danny Boyle and company weren't quite sure what to do with it that instead of delivering what could've been something brilliant, it fell back into that stale love story formula. There was a disappointing flatness to the writing that I just didn't care for and while I was never bored, I just couldn't get emotionally involved with both Hamish Patel and Lily James' characters. Plus, Kate McKinnon's character was excruciatingly cartoonish. Yesterday could've done better without the unnecessary and lazy romantic story. It was able to build a decent story, but sadly copped out at the end.
