Movie Review: Bad Times At The El Royale

Not going to lie, I was both excited and a little cautious going into the film - also given the little knowledge I have with it - but Bad Times At The El Royale was just downright magnificent. It was a gorgeous looking film with dynamite cinematography, sharp and realistic writing, and an impeccable use of tension given the non-linear structure of the narrative. The acting performances were stellar across the board, but with Cynthia Erivo as the standout. Sure, the set up was a little slow and the payoff towards the end may be quite polarizing, but for me, I genuinely understood the destination the film took and it was incredibly satisfying. I didn't expect much from this movie, but I ended up believing that Bad Times At The El Royale could very well be one of the strongest movies I've seen this year. Not kidding.
