Movie Review: The Hitman's Bodyguard

The Hitman's Bodyguard was a rapid fire presentation of action and humor, but altogether, it lacked so much ambition that it remained a passable film and nothing else. The strangely interesting basic premise had great potential to make this golden, but the writing was bombarded with cliches and flaws that it ended up as a generic action comedy romp. The pacing was very kinetic, which worked in parts, but often led to confusion and the film just didn't take itself too seriously - a redeeming or damning aspect of the film. Good thing both Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson had strong performances to hold the film up and save this from total disaster. The Hitman's Bodyguard was fairly entertaining with plenty of nifty action sequences that kept me on my toes, but essentially empty and barren. It's the equivalent of eating too much chocolate and getting a sugar rush. Satisfying while you consume it, but gives you headache afterwards.
