Music Release: Taylor Swift - ...Ready For It? "is a more accessible single."

Taylor Swift, ...Ready For It?

Are we really ready for this?

It is what surfaces as a question after two releases from Taylor Swift and her soon-to-be Reputation era. After Look What You Made Me Do, which obviously is inspired from her high profile feuds and dramas, she then releases ...Ready For It, a more accessible single and no doubt a better track than the former yet still an underwhelming effort from Ms. Swift herself.

Backed by some electric-trop house production, Taylor Swift ventures on a spit fire effort of lyrics play before toning it down on its pre-chorus and submitting in a more hook friendly chorus. The track is motivated by dynamics but it never really elevates pop music or Taylor Swift. It is an effort where Taylor succumbs to the current pop culture by mixing influences from different genre and taking what will work and not into one melodic outcome.

In the end, ...Ready For It is like a subtle swipe to Nicki Minaj and Kanye West, who she had feuded with, that rapping is something she can take and thinks she can do better. But it left her to a confusing ground and a much less than stellar end product.

...Ready For It, at its best, is and in every way better than Look What You Made Me Do. It is not vengeful and petty. It doesn't sacrifice melody to teen drama and rhythmic effort to childish tired shallow issues. It sure does allow you to enjoy the impact of the "New Taylor" that was implied rather than stated.

...Ready For It is surely less controversial yet could've been a better lead to her Reputation album.

It still begs the question though: are we really ready for this?
